Upscaling can make a small image easier to place in a layout, but it does not turn missing information into verified reality. AI may estimate edges and texture, so the result must be reviewed according to its intended use.
Calculate the output first
A 600 × 400 image becomes 1,200 × 800 at 2× and 2,400 × 1,600 at 4×. Choose the smallest scale that meets the real display requirement.
Decide whether the source is recoverable
Upscaling works best when the source is mildly small or soft but still contains recognizable structure. Severe motion blur, heavy compression, tiny text, or missing facial detail cannot be reliably restored.
Process with the appropriate scale

Inspect critical regions

Separate enlargement from factual recovery
Upscaling can smooth edges and improve perceived clarity, but it cannot prove what an unreadable label, face, texture, or distant object originally contained. Do not use generated detail as evidence in legal, medical, identification, forensic, or safety-critical contexts.
Review the high-risk regions
Inspect text, logos, hands, eyes, repeated patterns, thin lines, jewelry, stitching, and product labels at 100% zoom. Compare them with the source rather than judging only the larger result.
Keep the smallest acceptable result
